Tenda AC23 – The Bang For The Buck Wireless Router this 2020!

Is the Tenda AC23 AC2100 router your next purchase for your household? This might be the best router for you while being stuck in quarantine. Find out what makes this router a bang for the buck purchase with my review of this product after using it for myself.

Design

Its design is something really “techy” with it’s black color, it looks like its cool looking, and it also has 7 antennas! making it look like it can reach fast speeds just by its looks which is I think their goal when they designed this router, but if you’re looking for a router that will fit well with most interiors of a household with light interiors the Tenda AC23 wouldn’t look appealing and fit the theme. The Tenda AC23 wouldn’t look that good together with most furniture either. I would likely set this up near the computer or maybe if the household is occupied by mostly males then this router would look good everywhere.

Main Features

  • The Tenda AC23 AC2100 is a dual-band gigabit wireless router meaning it can accommodate both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. It has 802.11 ac wave2 technology and can provide speeds up to 2033 Mbps (300 Mbps for 2.4GHz and 1733 Mbps for 5GHz).
  • One of the best features in my opinion is the 4×4 MU-MIMO for the 5 GHz band. If you don’t know what MU-MIMO is, it means Multiple User – Multiple Input, Multiple Output. Which basically means it can handle more devices simultaneously without feeling any delay or having your ping spiking while you’re gaming.
  • The 7 antennas also provides a whole lot of WiFi coverage well beyond what my ISP’s router can offer. Even outside our house it still has 4 to 3 bars and at the front of our neighbor’s house in front of us still has 2 to 1 bar. We have a two-floor house and the router is placed on the second floor.
  • It is equipped with gigabit ports that support up to 1000 Mbps bandwidth access. Which means it won’t bottleneck your connection if you have more than 100 Mbps connection.
  • It has Beamforming+ for a better and more reliable connection. What Beamforming+ does is basically instead of the router broadcasting the signal of your WiFi in all directions the router determines where your device is for a stronger signal towards that direction.
  • It has Parental Control which can add time restrictions to any device connected to the router and can block specific websites for each device. This is perfect for parents controlling the internet access of their children’s devices.

Performance

I’ve been using this for a while now and all I can say is it has multiple features that a router at this price point usually doesn’t have. And I haven’t even used all the features yet that this router has since I don’t really now what most they do. It caters to our household that has about at most 15 devices connected at the same time. I can simultaneously play online games with stable ping while our 2 TVs is streaming Netflix or YouTube. I never once had it force restart itself. The most important software feature this has for me is the bandwidth control which means I can set the maximum up/down stream for each of the devices connected so I can give higher bandwidth to the devices that actually need it. Now lets get to the drawback and which is my version of the AC23 is the Chinese version instead of the global one which means it’s interface is in Chinese! But don’t let that bring you down there’s an easy fix. Once you’re in the Tenda interface just right click and click translate to English in your chrome web browser, another solution would be is to download their Tenda app to your phone which is automatically in English and set it up there with no hiccups.

Price

I got the Tenda AC23 AC2100 from Shopee priced at Php 1,877.00. There are non-Chinese versions but that would range from Php 2,8000.00 and above, and their only difference that I can see is the language which can easily be translated using a chrome web browser or by just downloading the Tenda app to your phone and configuring it there.

Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus – REVIEW

Cherry Mobile released one of their best phones last 2018 with the Flare S7 Plus. Which was beyond what they previously offered in terms of specifications but was still catering to their market in terms of price. In 2019 however, Cherry Mobile has big shoes to fill with their Flare S8 Plus.

The Cherry Mobile Flare S8 Plus is what you’d expect from a Php 12,900.00 device, it sports a Mediatek Helio P70 Processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of Internal Storage, 5 Cameras (Pop-Up Dual Front + Triple rear), and a full screen display.

Design

The color of the Flare S8 Plus is Pearl Black and it’s the only available color for this unit same as it’s predecessor. This time though, Cherry Mobile decided to place their logo on the back which they skipped out on the Flare S7 Plus. The Flare S8 Plus is equipped with a glass black which makes it feel very premium and solid, the back of the phone is also curved which makes it feel easier to hold and grip the phone.

The placement of the fingerprint sensor is at the side of the phone, which took some getting used too. I found it a little bit too low for my hands. I feel like if it would have been placed at where the power button is located then it would have been perfect.

It has no headphone jack. Some people still want that option and some don’t. Lots of smartphone makers are leaning away from the headphone jack but at its price point, usually it still has a headphone jack.

Overall, it looks and feels great. It looks premium, a lot of people wouldn’t believe you if you say that the device is a Cherry Mobile device because it looks so premium.

Design Rating : 4.5/5

Display

The Flare S8 Plus is equipped with a 6.26-inch FHD+ LCD Fullscreen Display which means no notch, no punch hole, just the entire screen for your viewing pleasure. It comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 Pixels, 403 ppi.

The screen is bright even on direct sunlight but it doesn’t have the best viewing angles so it’s pretty average. Watching movies with the phone is good. Looks crisp and it’s great not seeing a notch or a hole thanks to the full screen display.

Overall, it’s a good display but it still can’t compare to AMOLED displays phones offer today, but it offers a full screen experience which is a big plus points for me.

Cameras

Now here it is, my verdict on the 5 Cameras this phone has to offer. Price wise its cameras isn’t game changing but it’s different from the other brands.

The front Pop-Up module has two cameras instead of majority of the smartphone makers having only one primary camera. The front camera has a 16MP Main Camera and a 2MP Depth Sensor for a better experience with depth of field processing. The pictures with the selfie camera is not the best at its price range but it’s good and takes pictures with good depth of field, it shows good details and the output doesn’t look saturated. One thing i noticed was the bokeh effect processing is bad, but in a normal shot the depth of field is a whole lot better and looks a lot more natural, so i never actually used the bokeh effect.

Now the rear has 16MP Main Camera, 5MP Depth Sensor, and a 2MP Light Enhancing Sensor. usually when you hear a phone has 3 rear cameras you would think that it would have at least a Macro or Wide angle, with the Flare S8 Plus though, all the lenses focuses on the main camera output. The shots I took were a lot better than the front camera but I wished Cherry added a wide angle lens. The output had good details and was not saturated like the front cameras, it did great on well lighted areas but not so much on poorly lighted places.

Overall, it was a good experience taking pictures with this phone, it produced crisp images and shows a lot of detail in well lighted areas but it falls short on taking photos at a poorly lighted environments, and I really wish Cherry added a wide angle lens or at least a macro which at least gives us another option.

Cameras Rating : 3.5/5

Performance

Mediatek Helio P70, 6GB of RAM, 128GB internal storage. These are the key features I notice about this device in terms of performance. This device can surely handle all the apps casual users use like the popular social media apps and can also game at the same time.

The Mediatek Helio P Series is definitely one of the reason good processing power can come at budget price points, no wonder Cherry Mobile opted to stay with the Helio P series to maintain it’s budget friendly price but at its price point at the moment there are other brands that offer the same processing power at a lower price. 6GB of RAM is more than enough for the casual users like myself, multi-tasking was smooth and so far I had no problems like lagging or unresponsiveness with the device. 128GB of internal storage is the new normal to smartphones at this price range. It would be really hard to fill up all that space unless you’re really trying to maximize it’s capacity I have about 80+ apps installed and I still have 90GB of storage free.

The Flare S8 Plus has 3250 mAh battery capacity, which is pretty average since a lot of new phones at this price point already sports 4000 mAh batteries. The battery capacity lasted me the entire day. Most of the times after work I’ll still have 20 to 30 percent battery left. I’m guessing the Helio P70 processor really helps out in saving battery.

Overall, for its price the performance is good at best. There are a lot of new devices that offers better processing power at this price point but I wouldn’t take away that it handles the daily usage of an average user very well even with a side of gaming usage. The only other downside I could think of is the battery which could be a lot higher or at the very least 4000 mAh considering the standards for this price point.

Performance Rating : 3.5/5

Overall if you’re looking for a phone with pop up cameras, full screen display, good processing power, and a premium design and feel. You should take a look at this phone. You’ll be surprised at what Cherry Mobile has to offer.

10 Months with the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus – Review

Cherry Mobile has released last year 2018, the Flare S7 Plus. The smartphone that made it clear that Cherry Mobile still means business when it comes to the smartphone industry in the Philippines. They made big leaps in specifications from their predecessor the Flare S6 Plus, in terms of camera, performance and even adding in wireless charging technology. The design is another thing to take note of, they made a premium looking and feeling device with a glass back and an iPhone looking notch (Which was a big deal at the time). Cherry Mobile squeezed in lots of noteworthy features for the price of only 11,999 pesos.

Now almost a year old with me as my daily driver, I’ll share with you my experiences and my thoughts about the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus, and if those experiences would lead me to getting a new phone.

I found the Flare S7 Plus a totally different device from what Cherry Mobile previously offered. Design wise, it’s an eye catcher. I’ve had multiple people ask me what my phone was and almost all of them were surprised that it was a phone made by Cherry. To be fair it didn’t have the brands logo anywhere within the phone, which in my opinion they should’ve added their logo. This was one of the best looking device they made but it doesn’t have their logo in the back of the phone.

Speaking of the back of the phone. It sports a glass back which is needed for the wireless charging, making the phone a total smudge magnet at the back, but if your like me who likes to have the phone protected by a case at all times, it wouldn’t be much of a problem.

The phone has a 6.18 inch display that is paired with an iPhone like notch. It’s also FHD+ and has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, but the phone comes with a tempered glass for you to use just in case. My tempered was actually cracked when I dropped my phone about 4 to 5 feet. I couldn’t find a replacement so I had a different phones tempered glass(Oppo F7) and it fits quite nicely. If you don’t like the included case and If your looking for a case for this phone you can try out the cases for Vivo Y91. It fits pretty well but the camera slot isn’t perfect but it would do for the time being.

As you can see at the top picture I’m not using the stock home launcher the phone came with, I’m using Nova Launcher cause I like to change how my phone looks from time to time. Some phones won’t let you use launchers so I’m pretty happy that the Flare S7 Plus allows me to use them.

As my daily driver for months now, checking social media, my emails, browsing the web, and occasionally playing games (PUBG,NBA 2k18) I didn’t really have any problems since the phone has 4GB of RAM and a Helio P60 Processor. I had minimal issues with lag, I haven’t encountered any heating or crashing problems. It also has a 64gb internal storage which I also pair with my 32gb micro sd card, so storage wasn’t a problem as well.

The phone has a 3,050mAh battery which is non removable. It’s well enough for me, it lasts me the entire day if I use it casually without playing games. If I leave the house for work with 100% usually I go home with 20% to 30% left. The results will vary with how heavily you use it on a daily basis.

The phone doesn’t have a headphone jack! and it’s honestly not a deal breaker for me. The unit comes with a dongle for your earphones.

The phone has a 16MP + 5MP BSI rear cameras with LED Flash for the main camera and a 16MP + IR front camera with AI Selfie camera The cameras took really good shots especially at well lighted areas.

There you have it. That’s my take on the Cherry Mobile Flare S7 Plus having been my daily driver for 10 months. Will I get a new phone soon? honestly, I’m still pretty content with my Flare S7 Plus. It’s still not really outdated and it still runs really well as my daily driver even if I dropped it a couple of times already. At first I was honestly thinking a Cherry Mobile phone wouldn’t be a good phone for the long haul, but I’m glad I’ve been proven wrong and got my money’s worth. Props to Cherry for this smartphone.
